Wow! I Will Be Open Soon!!!

Well, here I am again, obviously writing from 1985, when people didn’t know the importance of keeping up with a blog once it was started! It has been forever since I have written here; I have been working and working and working in the hopes of actually opening the doors here. I am still at 1700 Madison Ave., in between the Zinnie’s, more specifically in between Audiomania and The Lamplighter. I really, truly believe I will be open in about two weeks. Things have taken longer than expected but I now have 90% of what I needed to have done in order to open, done. At this point, ifI had the ways and means to move the books from Downtown to Midtown, I would fling my doors open tomorrow. Literally. Any Takers? Any good karma seekers with bulging muscles and a few hours to kill? How about next Monday? ( Seriously.) Well, in luie (sp?) of that happening, I will have 11,000 books for sale just as soon as is humanly possible. My phone number is 833-3099 or 725-1475, so feel free to get in touch with me if you feel the Spirit in you, moving you to lift book boxes into my truck. Until the next time, take good care, all.

Not A Coffeeshop

I will not be selling coffee but encourage you to bring your own. If you need water for tea, I can accomodate you. As things stand now, it seems to me that if you want to bring your lunch with you and spend your lunchbreak at The English Major, well, by all means. Maybe a policy of eat and then read could be instigated, but we’ll just have to see. It might be a good idea for me to get the door open first and decide on a napkin policy later. Just an idea. Take Care!

Bring Your Pooch!

I have two dogs and they go pretty much everwhere with me. Therefore, it is my intention to be a dog-friendly establishment, however, I don’t even know of very many of these in Memphis. I know that Saddle Creek went dog friendly and while I think it is great they did, I have no idea how it has worked out as I’ve never even been there! So, basing things on common sense, I figure if you bring your dog in on a leash and there isn’t any hiking of legs all over 20 or 25 books, we should all get along great. My Chihuahua, Muriel, is almost three and her daughter, Charlie, a Chihuahua/Mini Pincher mix, will hopefully be being joined by a German Shepherd, as soon as I find one I like. If you have a suggestions about insuring a dog friendly policy works, feel free to let me know! Also, I will have a litle area out in back for breaks! Bye!

About Me!

Hi! My name is Karin Morley and I am currently trying to open a used bookstore called The English Major Bookstore at 1700 Madison Ave. I am a 2004 graduate of the University of Memphis with a B.A. in, go figure, English. Since graduating, I have been driving a horse and carriage downtown and encourage everyone to go out within the next week and support the Horse and Carriage Business! We spend a lot of time supporting and selling Memphis to the rest of the world, feel free to send a little holiday cheer our way! ( My company is Memphis Carriage Rides - go to memphiscarriegerides.com) Anyway, we are sure busy putting those finishing touches on the shop and hopefully will be flinging doors open soon. I am extremely excited about the store because I am a lifelong book lover and can’t wait to start buying and selling books to folks. I am particularly happy about being in Midtown as I have been in Memphis since 1991 and lived in Midtown for about 7 years. I then moved out by the University for school and spent a year and a half downtown. I have a soft spot in my heart for Midtown, though, and am especially glad to be on Madison Ave.! More on me later, for now, I am going to try to go get those doors open!! Check back soon for more info!

How to Find the Used Bookstore

Duh!

As I said, we are located (or soon will be) at 1700 Madison Avenue in the heart of midtown. That is right next door to the Lamplighter Bar, in the shopping center between Old Zinnie’s and Zinnie’s East.

(Just because all my directions seem to involve bars doesn’t mean anything; you should draw no conclusions!)
